Global Breastfeeding Wave: ONE Action to Secure
the Best for our Children

A healthy start in life is the most precious gift one can make to a newborn child. To
encourage us to give this gift to our children, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding
Action (WABA) invites Mothers of Malaysia on Wednesday, 8 August 2007 to join
mothers from all over the world in breastfeeding their babies to create a Global
Breastfeeding Wave, in celebration of the annual World Breastfeeding Week
(WBW).

To be a part of this inaugural world attempt, each participating group in their country
will encourage their mothers to breastfeed their babies at exactly 10 a.m. local time
for ONE minute. The Global Wave will start from New Zealand on 8 August their
time followed by the next time zone and so on until the Wave hits Malaysia where we
will breastfeed our babies at our 10 a.m. for ONE minute and pass on the Wave to the
next time zone. It is like a New Year celebration.

The purpose of Global Breastfeeding Wave is:
グローバルウエーブの目的は
1. To make breastfeeding a “norm” thus securing the health of babies and
their mothers.

2. To develop links with mothers and breastfeeding advocates nationally and
internationally in promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding
worldwide.

3. To create awareness of the importance of breastfeeding in the world and
thereby encourage countries to ensure the implementation of better Infant
and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and better support facilities for
breastfeeding mothers.
4. To achieve maximum media coverage nationally and internationally to
promote a public culture of awareness and knowledge on breastfeeding
issues.
5. To make a permanent and on-going roster of the national records of each
nation on simultaneous breastfeeding in a single site and in multiple sites
in that country so that each year that country can strive to surpass its own
records for every year that it attempts to make a Global Wave.
6. To provide a measure of how the Breastfeeding Movement around the
world is progressing every year and to achieve the numbers worldwide that
will help all nations cooperate in reviving the breastfeeding culture.
7. To help develop a caring, cooperative and peaceful society and world.
